ABOUT THE EXAM

The Year 9 Science Exam will take place during the

Week beginning January 10th 2022

 

The Science Exam will topics from Year 7 and Year 8 as well as test pupils on their scientific skills.

This is too broad. The following list will help streamline your revision.

 

Organs of the body -  including the digestive system.

Smoking - effects on the body and body cells.

Food webs and food chains - pyramids of numbers and biomass.

Balanced Diet - effects of food groups on the body, effects of poor diet.

 

Rock cycle - volcanoes and fossils.

Acids and Alkalis - indicators, neutralisation.

Periodic Table - patterns, periods and groups, symbols.

Properties of metals and non-metals - melting and boiling points.

Understanding chemical formula.

Chemical reactions - names of compounds formed.

 

Forces - calculating weight, multiple forces acting on an object, balanced forces.

Gravity - effects on objects around planets.

Colours - spectrum of light and coloured filters and coloured objects.

 

Scientific skills - understanding variables, what makes results reliable, plotting points on a graph, drawing lines of best fit, drawing conclusions from data, writing word equations for chemical reactions, analysing data from a table or from a graph.
